TACTICAL GAMEX

Tactical GameX is a new interpretation of the classic Avalon Hill games PanzerBlitz and Panzer Leader. An effort has been taken to bring the play of these games into the 21st Century. Rather than moving all units at a time, players swap impulses, moving an unknown number of units at a time. There are also options to turn the game into a card-driven system complete with random events.

My inspiration for creating this new rules set was the vast (and I do mean vast!) number of supplemental units and maps created by the folks at the Imaginative Strategist. The goal was to create a system that was fully backward compatible with the classic games, but provide a more interactive and suspenseful experience with the option to play with armies from all the nations fielding substantial armies during World War 2.

On this page you’ll find support for this rules set as well as links to where you can acquire the rules, action cards, charts, supplemental counters, and the counters created by the folks at the Imaginative Strategist.

GAME HISTORY

Tactical GameX is currently under design. I’ve managed to get a couple of play tests in and the system is looking quite stable and it flows well. I see this project as a living effort that will continue to improve as more folks give the updated system a try and help to squash any bugs that come up. If you take it for a spin, please let me know your comments.

REDUX VERSION: One of the things that always bothered me was the way that Line-of-Sight was handled with regards to hills and slopes. Keeping in mind that the original design of Dunnigan’s Tactical Games are pushing fifty years of age (yikes!). Over this period, the means of handling Line-of-Sight have become far more elegant (read: simpler). To bring Tactical GameX into the present, I’ve decided to redo the original seven maps and rejigger the rules to account for this new procedure. To the right you’ll find links to the updated rules, terrain effects chart, and maps.

Even though I fully intent to take the design of the game in this new direction, I’m leaving the old rules intact for those of you who would prefer to continue “kicking it old school.”

You’ll find the list of components to the right under Downloads.

SUPPORT THE TACTICAL GAMEX PROJECT

Since the bulk of this rules set was generated by the fine folks at Imaginative Strategist and it’s based upon two (well, three) games by Avalon Hill, I can’t see how I can charge for this rules set. I did this mostly for fun, partly driven by the fact that I actually printed and mounted all those damn IMSTRAT counters and needed an excuse to play with them! Still, I could certainly use your support in helping me keep this site up and running and support for the game system moving forward.

The rules and supplemental components that I created are absolutely free for you to download and enjoy. If you do have a good time with them, I encourage you to click the Donation button below and shoot me what you think is fair.

Thanks for your support!
